Combine the glamour of Capri with undiscovered Ischia
Kick-start your holiday with a sensational three nights spent on Capri, an island located on the south side of the Gulf of Naples in the Campania region. Once considered “the isle of sirens” in Greek mythology, charming Capri has been a popular coastal resort since the days of the Roman Republic (and it’s easy to see why!). The island provides a landscape very few can resist: Roman villa ruins, a dazzling harbor, stunning architecture and unparalleled beaches and coves.
Your stay in Capri will be at the 4 star Hotel Villa San Felice is situated in the center of the island just a few minutes from the famous “Piazzetta”. Immersed in a luscious flowering garden that surrounds it on all sides, the hotel boasts a magnificent entrance, much photographed by tourists attracted by the floral compositions that adorn the approach avenue.
After experiencing idyllic Capri, you’ll then island-hop to Ischia for a further five nights’ stay. Ischia faces the gulf of Naples and is part of the Phlegraean island group generated by powerful underwater volcanoes, along with Procida and the deserted Vivara.
Famous for its natural beauty, Ischia is also renowned for its rich thermal-mineral waters. The prodigious properties of Ischia’s waters have been well-known since ancient Roman times and even then, the island was probably one of the most famous thermal stations for the healing of both body and soul. Ischia is tradition, hospitality and undisputed beauty to be appreciated with your own eyes and enjoyed at your own pleasure.
Staying at another distinguished 4 star hotel, you could spend the last leg of your holiday eagerly exploring the island’s radiant flora and fauna or traipsing its dreamy beaches whose often hot water (due to the mixing with thermal springs) will do its best to relieve all that stress from back home. Next, marvel at the island’s impressive ruins of yesteryear, including outposts, towers and rock shelters and then head to the square on the Punta Del Soccorso in Forio where you’ll find a tiny church offering breath taking views of the Mediterranean. When the hunger finally sets in, the seafood in Ischia certainly doesn’t disappoint. Wrap your taste-buds around some sumptuous linguine and fried fish (known asparanza fry), all fresh and brought back to land by local fishermen. (You’ll never go hungry, that’s for sure!).
Also worth a visit are the gardens of la Mortella in Forio, a few steps from your Hotel. The charm of these gardens may be due to their origin, a lifelong love story between William and his wife Susana. The gardens are divided into two parts, a lower garden in the valley and a garden on the hilltop. It covers an area of about 2 hectares (about 5 acres) and is home to more than 3000 species of exotic and rare plants. This amazing botanical garden is further enriched by the presence of beautiful sights, such as the Chinese Pagoda, the Crocodile Pool, the Temple of the Sun, and the museum dedicated to William Walton. In addition to large fountains and streams, the garden is also home a superb collection of aquatic plants: papyrus, lotus flowers, and tropical water lilies.
