8 Night Kerala Holiday: Kochi, Thekkady, Kovalam And Backwater Cruise

£1099/per adult

Kerala is a delicious slither of paradise on India’s Malabar Coast. With Western Ghats bursting with sloping spice plantations, national parks teeming with wildlife and to-die-for beaches fringed by the twinkling Arabian Sea, this southern Indian state offers something for everyone.

And because it’s so packed with history, culture and sun-baked shorelines, we’ve crammed a wide range of different activities into this eight-night tour.

Wake up at decadent three and four-star hotels, scattered around Kerala's hot spots, including Kochi, Thekkady and Kovalam. And with breakfast and dinner included, you'll only need to think about what to eat when you’re out and about.

Kick off your getaway with a sightseeing tour of Kochi (also known as Cochin). We'll whisk you off to the Dutch Palace, St Francis Church, the chandelier-clad Jewish Synagogue and show you the centuries-old Chinese fishing nets.

Add a splash of authenticity to your trip with a visit to a village in Thekkady. Here, mingle with the locals to get a taste of what life is really like. Tuck into a vegetarian lunch served on banana leaf, keep your eyes peeled for exotic wildlife during a cruise down Periyar Lake and don traditional Indian attire during an exclusive photo shoot. Later, get your feet tapping during a Kathakali dance performance.

The day after, you'll enjoy a thrilling bullock cart ride through village fields and practice your haggling at a local spice market.

After, stop off in Kumarakom, a village nestled in Kerala’s backwaters. Experience its spaghetti-like canals during a private sunset cruise and drink in the blood orange glow soaking into the horizon before you.

Then, the last leg of your trip will be spent in Kovalam, relaxing and unwinding on the sun-baked shores of this small coastal town.

There is no set itinerary, so you are free to roam around wherever and at whatever pace you please. Scale the striped lighthouse at Lighthouse Beach and marvel at the superlative views before you; swim and sunbathe in the cove-ridden beaches of Hawa Beach and Samudra Beach; lose yourself in the bustling fishing harbour or visit Vizhinjam Juma Masjid mosque nestled behind.
