“This is Burma (aka Myanmar), and it will be quite unlike any land you know about,” wrote Rudyard Kipling in 1889 after seeing for the first time the breathtaking Shwedagon Pagoda rising like a vast twinkling golden finger touching the sky. Myanmar is a land of great diversity, "a hall of mirrors", "an enchanting enigma" described by Vanity Fair Travel as “at once bewitching and baffling, disarming and distorting, mesmerizing and misleading. The only thing predictable about Myanmar is its unpredictability.”
This alluring, authentic nation is tucked between Bangladesh, India, China and Thailand and is a gem that we would quite like to keep secret! Yangon is a city where you can’t help but be swept away in the throng of the bustling markets and the precious jewels of British Colonial Rangoon sloping down to pristine lakes. The trip’s highlight is a fascinating guided Shwedagon Pagoda tour in Yangon with entrance fee and air conditioned transfer. Next it’s onto the vast Inle Lake, high in the eastern hill country, its mirror-like surface and luminous waters reflecting the captivating scenes of life largely unchanged for centuries and stilt villages full of colorful markets.
Along the way you will also uncover the country’s enduring spirituality at Bagan where will enjoy Guided tour in Bagan to the beautiful Ananda Temple. Also take a Horse cart ride for a tour passing Thatbyinnyu, the highest temple in Bagan. You may also choose an optional to Mount Popa: small shrines untouched by time and the large standing gilded image of Yoke Sone Monastery in Salay. Be sure to scramble to the top of one of the ancient pagodas to behold the sun exploding in a huge-white yellow flash over the horizon – a memory you will surely cherish!
From Bagan take a domestic flight to Bangkok, Thailand’s capital, is a large city known for ornate shrines and vibrant street life. The boat-filled Chao Phraya River feeds its network of canals, flowing past the Rattanakosin royal district, home to opulent Grand Palace and its sacred Wat Phra Kaew Temple. Nearby is Wat Pho Temple with an enormous reclining Buddha and, on the opposite shore, Wat Arun Temple with its steep steps and Khmer-style spire.
Your journey concludes with a stay in Phuket, probably Thailand’s most famous beach destination. Befriend the sun, sand and the azure blue waters. When you are in Phuket, you are spoilt for the choices. Phuket, a rainforested, mountainous island in the Andaman Sea, has some of Thailand’s most popular beaches, mostly situated along the clear waters of the western shore. The island is home to many high-end seaside resorts, spas and restaurants. Phuket City, the capital, has old shophouses and busy markets.
