Referred by locals as the Eighth Wonder of the World this ancient palace and fortress complex has significant archaeological importance and attracts thousands of tourists every year. It is probably the most visited tourist destination of Sri Lanka. Sigiriya rock plateau, formed from magma of an extinct volcano, is 200 meters higher than the surrounding jungles.

After Sigiriya want to try something traditional and completely different? A delightful evening bullock cart ride is just the ticket, which will take you to some of the nicest places on the island. It’s pretty unconventional and definitely an adventure. Riding in the shade of the forests, you will see the country’s historic sites and some of the lovely scenery as well. What makes this ride exceptional is that you will visit a Sri Lankan village and enjoy a cookery demonstration and home-cooked meal from the local women and then top it off with a canoe ride across a beautiful lake! This tour will make your holiday that much more unforgettable!

After breakfast proceed to visit the Dambulla Rock Temple. Dambulla is a popular destination in the cultural triangle of Sri Lanka. With a history that dates back to the 1st century, Dambulla has historic statues and paintings in its caves that has made it a popular destination for archeological studies. This temple was built by King Walagambahu during the 1st Century B.C. Dambulla is a UNESCO world heritage site. There are more than 80 documented caves in the surrounding and the paintings are done on the ceiling. There are a total of 153 Buddha statues 3 statues of Sri Lankan kings and 4 statues of god and goddess.

Thereafter proceed on a jeep safari to visit the Minneriya National Park. The park is famous for being the best place in Sri Lanka to get close to free-ranging elephants. Bordering the Minneriya tank and the Giritale tank, the 7,529 hectare park attracts hundreds of elephants during the dry season, as surrounding water source dries up. Watching them travel in herds of 10 to 20, it is impossible not to be impressed with the sheer bulk of a fully grown adult, but equally spectacular is seeing how they interact. There is also a host of water birds, both large and small, so keep your eyes open for delicately hued storks, slender and elegant grey herons, and great white pelicans.

After breakfast you will leave for Kandy. Just 25 km from the hill capital of Kandy, the Matale spice gardens are among the best on the island. Here you will be introduced to different types of spices Sri Lanka is famous for and and will also be shown how some of these spices are grown and processed. Visitors may buy spices, traditional remedies and cosmetics, taste a herbal brew and in some venues.

In Matale, you will also enjoy the full flavors of Sri Lankan spices over lunch or an Ayurveda massage based on natural products from the garden.

After breakfast, proceed on a sightseeing tour of Kandy - which was the last capital of the Sri Lankan kings, and is a World Heritage Site. The name Kandy conjures visions of splendor and magnificence. Many of the legends, traditions and folklore are still lovingly kept alive. Drive around the Kandy Lake built by the last Sinhala King Sri Wickrama Rajasinghe in 1798. Visit the Kandy town and Bazaar, the arts & crafts centre and a gem museum and a lapidary.

In the evening visit the Temple of the Tooth Relic and thereafter witness a cultural show featuring traditional Sri Lankan dancing.

After breakfast, proceed to the Kandy Train Station to board the Train leaving for Nanu Oya – It is an unforgettable train ride to Nuwara Eliya. Sit back in the comfort where from you can catch jaw-dropping views as the train powers up through the tea plantations, into the clouds and then weaves in and out of the many mountain tunnels. The railway in Sri Lanka was first introduced by the British Colonial government in 1864, to transport tea from places like Nuwara Eliya to the capital, Colombo.

Nuwara Eliya which is at an elevation of 1890 meters above the sea level is the highest city in Sri Lanka and it lies beneath the tallest peak of the island. Nuwara Eliya (City of Lights) is a resort city blessed with salubrious climate, breathtaking views of valleys, meadows, mountains and greenery. Nuwara Eliya, also known as ‘Little’ England’, was the favorite hill station of the British who tried to create the resort into a typical English Village.

Following breakfast at hotel, leave for Kalutura. Situated approximately 42km south of Colombo, this town is well known for quality bamboo basket and mats and the finest tasting mangosteens. Kalutara's golden beach is fringed by magnificent palms and is excellent for swimming.

Markets, small shops and busy roads make up this small, yet busy town, and visitors will find the Gangatilaka Vihara there, one of the few Buddhist monuments that permits entry and a true highlight worth visiting OR you may also choose the optional Yala National Park which is the most visited and second largest national park in Sri Lanka.

Yala is an ideal place to spot the “big four” of Sri Lankan wildlife, the elephants, the sloth bear, the illusive leopard and the wild buffalo, the unsung denizen of the park, if nothing else dangerous to the extreme. Book your safari to have this amazing experience.

After enjoying your breakfast this day will again be at leisure.

You may spend your day relaxing or can visit some of the main attractions of Kalutara such as the Gangatilaka Viharaya, the Kalutara Bodiya, Richmond Castle, the Asokaramaya Buddhist Temple and Calido Beach.

End your holiday in this very beautiful and relaxing part of Sri Lanka by reclining on the golden sandy beaches or sipping cocktails overlooking the sunset.
