Release your inner history buff during this 12-day tour of some of Peru’s most captivating metropoles. Dive down deep into the rich history running through the veins of Lima, Arequipa, Puno and Cusco and visit the likes of Machu Picchu and Lake Titicaca!

Discover the magical kingdom of Peru with this 12-day city-hopping tour of Lima, Arequipa, Puno and Cusco. Get ready for historical monuments, ancient Incan remains and mesmerizing scenery galore as we whisk you off to breath-taking sites such as Machu Picchu, the Colca Canyon and Lake Titicaca!

Peru is one of South America’s pearls. Situated on the western side of the continent and bordered by Ecuador, Colombia, Brazil, Bolivia and Chile, you’ll find that Peru’s diversity,so deeply rooted to its core, hasn’t faded since the days in which it housed the impressive Incan Empire. Picture an enchanting land where world-famous cuisine, colonial architecture and radiant landscapes occupy every nook and cranny.

Meandering through its thronging metropoles and timeless rural villages, remnants of the Incan civilization which once occupied these lands are clearly visible and the whole experience is often likened to strolling through the echoing halls of a museum.

To satisfy those inner history buffs amongst you, we’re offering a whole heap of sightseeing opportunities around the cities of Lima, Arequipa, Puno and Cusco. Lima is Peru’s metropolitan capital with a window to the Pacific and its historical downtown district is a World Heritage Site all on its own. Leave your troubles back home and while away the hours in the bustling Plaza Mayor or sink your teeth into delectable cuisine. Peru is, after all, the gastronomical capital of Latin America, particularly where coffee and chocolate are concerned.

Next, feast your eyes upon the city of Arequipa, located on the southern coast and surrounded by three mighty volcanoes. Like its explosive surroundings, the Human Heritage Site of Arequipa doesn’t disappoint.

A visit to the city of Puno will provide the perfect stepping stone for getting out onto Lake Titicaca. This is a beautiful, twinkling body of water covering some 8300 square kilometres and home to the famous giant frog of Titicaca which can weigh a whopping 3kg. Although this area is a far cry from trendy Lima and bustling Cusco, the inhabitants of the city of Puno have strived to keep the area’s agricultural traditions and ancestral rituals alive, making for an authentic Peruvian experience.

Make your way to Southeast Peru for the last leg of your trip. Here, you’ll experience the charm of Cusco, a World Heritage Site and historical capital of the Inca Empire from the 13th to the 16th century. A glistening haven of cultural heritage and striking architecture, not to mention the perfect springboard for visits to the glorious Machu Picchu, Cusco sits 3400m above sea level and offers a veritable window into the Incan culture of yesteryear.

Visit the Qoricancha, the Sun Temple, traipse the Sacsayhuaman (ruins by the white Jesus) and elbow your way through crowds and vendors at San Pedro Market, spouting a chorus of “gracias” and “cuanto cuesta’s,” and finally putting that senior school Spanish to good use.

And a trip to Peru would be far from complete without a visit to the world-famous Incan citadel of Machu Picchu. Rest your head in Aguas Calientes, the gateway town to Machu Picchu, and watch as the sun bleeds gold over the horizon during sunrise, casting the landscape below a deep shade of bronze. Trust us, the 5.30 am start is worth it.

Community and family values are invaluable to the Taquile population, possibly due in part to their isolation from the mainland until the 1950s. Weaving is a tradition dating back to early civilisations and thus strives to keep pre-Inca Andean cultures alive. You’ll find garments such as the “chullo”, a knitted hat with an earflap and “the calendar waistband.” Upon arrival at the island, meander along a narrow path and feast your eyes on incredible views of Lake Titicaca, after which you’ll have some free time to explore the island at your own pace. We’ll drive 20 km to the Tambopata River Port and enter the native community of Infierno, a port of communal business. After a 45 minute boat ride from the Tambopata Port to Posada Amazonas, you’ll touch down in the community’s Primary Forest Private Reserve where the lodge manager will welcome you and brief you with important navigation and security tips.

Canopy Tower: If you stray 20 minutes from Posada Amazonas on foot you’ll find yourself at the 30 m scaffolding Canopy Tower. Access the platforms above by using a staircase with bannister. From atop, feast your eyes on spectacular views of the vast, green-crested forest, separated by the Tambopata River which winds through the middle. Watch as the toucans, parrots and macaws soar through the sky above you and land on the canopy. In the afternoon you’ll visit the Ethno botanical. A 20-minute boat drive down river leads you to a trail designed by the staff of the Centro Ñape, a communal organization which extracts medicine from forest plants and administers it to patients. The staff has created a trail which talks about the different medicinal uses of said plants.
