Take the plunge and behold an empire of extreme beauty
Peru’s vast kaleidoscope of colour, vibrancy and history create an elaborate mesh of seductive and smouldering South American scenery.
Resurrected from the hands of a colossal artist is the staggering animated and diverse backdrop. Piping hot deserts sweeping into rugged sugar-sprinkled peaks, which soar high above the Amazon, tucked in between rise the Andes with Inca roads trailing up towards hushed settlements.
We start off with a bang in the capital city of Lima with views of seascapes, deserts and the coast. Day to night the Parque Kennedy district thrives with cuisine, museums and shops.
Next up is the White city of Arequipa, the sillar stone gateway to Mount Chachani, Misti, and Pichu Pichu. Baroque-style buildings and cobbled roads reflect European, indigenous and Spanish influences. Visit the markets for Queso Helado before heading to the museums.
‘The Valley of Wonders’ is home to the phenomenal Colca Canyon and the magnificent Andean condors swooping above the Colca River, which cuts through the deepest void in the world. Collagua women from the nearby villages can be spotted wearing traditional hats with ribbon.
Another spectacle is the Lake Titicaca, a splash of translucent neon blue at an impressive 3,855 metres. This birthplace of civilisation is home to the Uros Indians, who live on the floating islands.
No Peru adventure is complete without visiting the Inca’s ‘Lost City’. At Machu Picchu you will find yourself in the words of Hiram Bingham ‘truly breathless’ before the infinite stonework.
Savour Peru’s eclectic cuisine, sights and history. For in this sacred land, the chefs, artists and communities have worked in union with their diverse country to create a proud and glorious empire.
