Once-in-a-lifetime trip across Myanmar with a beach break, Inle Lake boat tour, luxury hotels, city tours, foot massage, flights & private transfers!

Book your incredible 11-night tour with all the above today! Total from £1,499pp

“This is Burma, and it will be quite unlike any land you know about,” wrote Rudyard Kipling in 1889, after seeing for the first time the exceptional Shwedagon Pagoda. From ancient temples and beautiful landscapes to glorious beaches, you’ll find relics from Myanmar’s tumultuous past at every turn. Aesthetically untouched by western culture, Myanmar offers a unique insight into an exotic part of the world, with its magical untouched beaches and diverse cities.

You kick off in Yangon which lies in the lush delta of southern Myanmar, on the Yangon River. Whilst here, you’ll soak up some of the area’s mesmerising pagodas and visit the national museum, before moving onto Inle Lake, set high in the eastern hill country. As you sail across the mirror-like surface you will see scenes of daily life unchanged for centuries.

Next you’ll uncover the country’s enduring spirituality at Bagan where you will enjoy a tour of some of the pagodas and temples. Be sure to climb to the top of one of the pagodas to witness the sun exploding in a huge-white yellow flash over the horizon – a memory you will surely cherish!

Your journey concludes with a stay on Ngapali Beach, TripAdvisor’s 2016 Traveller’s Choice Awards top beach destination. Relaxing on the beach you’ll feel a million miles from anywhere. Gradually the song of the sea will loll you to a deep sleep; dreaming of pagodas, ever-smiling monks, jumping cats and fishermen steering their boats with one leg. This must be a dream! But as you wake up to a beaming sun, you'll realise this is a holiday that has made all your wishes come true!

Your journey of a lifetime begins in Yangon, formerly known as Rangoon. Arrive at the international airport where you’ll be met by our local guide and transferred to your hotel. After checking in, spend the rest of the day immersing in the atmosphere of the bustling metropolis.

A stay in Yangon is akin to residing in your very own “Garden City of the East” as Yangon’s wide, tree-lined avenues and the precious jewels of British Colonial Rangoon stretch down to pristine lakes filled with impossibly green waters. Yangon is a city of contrasts: from history-stained streets and golden pagodas to grand colonial hotels that bear testimony to a glorious colonial past. It is the city that moved the influential British journalist, Norman Lewis, to write his book “Golden Earth: Travels in Burma”.

Yangon is a unique experience: it has been the capital of Myanmar since the middle of the 19th century when the British transformed it into their administrative centre of Further India.  After breakfast, this rich history will come to life as you take a city tour to the National Museum and Kyaukhtatgyi Pagoda's 70 metre long reclining Buddha. Downtown sightseeing includes Sule Pagod to take photos of the panoramic views of the city and Mahabandoola Park with the Independent Monument. Then take a short walk through Chinatown and Little India, two incredibly diverse and vibrant neighbourhoods.

In the afternoon, continue to Bogyoke Market, formerly known as Scott’s Market and is Yangon’s best destination for handicrafts. From here, continue to Shwedagon Pagoda the most celebrated Buddhist temple in Myanmar. Discover a historic medallion in gold as you behold the sight of the sun setting over the large dome. Shwedagon Pagoda cannot be left out of a city tour of Yangon! The finest example of archaeological brilliance, it is the country’s most famous attraction.

Please note: Bogyoke Market is closed on Mondays and public holidays.

After breakfast, enjoy free time before being transferred to Yangon airport for a morning departure flight to Heho. On arrival at the airport, you will proceed to Nyaung Shwe where you will be whisked away by car to the jetty for a boat ride and transfer to your hotel in Inle Lake. After check-in, the afternoon is free for you to explore the beautiful sights and sounds of life surrounding the lake.

Gentle and humorous tribal people, solitary fishermen, landscapes dotted with thousands of floating gardens, and a sense of travelling back in time to the days of old Southeast Asia are some of the experiences that you will find at Inle Lake. As the hotel is berthed majestically in the heart of the lake, you will have plenty of time to explore this destination. Sail to a nearby floating bazaar or on land take a horse-drawn carriage. Whether you decide to visit the winery, spring pools, floating villages or pagodas, there is no better way to begin your trip to Inle Lake than with a leisurely day in this lovely town.

Please note: Morning flights can be swapped amongst different local airlines such as Air KBZ 828, Golden Myanmar Airlines, Asian Wings Airways, Myanmar 113 and Myanmar 109.

After breakfast, an excellent motor boat ride across the lake promises a spectacular cultural experience. As you whoosh across the calm waters, you will catch a glimpse of a way of life largely unchanged for centuries. Allow Lake Inle’s unique charm to capture your hearts as you immerse yourself in a world far away from the stresses of city life. Watch fishermen balancing on one leg and steering their boats with the other while hauling their catch!

During your first stop you will have the opportunity to visit the Monastery of the Jumping Cats, “Nga Hpe Chung Monastery” and see the magnificent Shan Buddah Images. It is believed that the monks who live here have trained the cats that hang around the monastery to leap through hoops for treats!

Another highlight is the Phaung Daw Oo Pagoda with its 800 years old images of the Buddha that are covered in genuine gold leaf: it is the holiest religious site in Shan State. The images are thought to have been brought to the region by Alaung Sithu, King of the Bagan Dynasty in the 12th century. You will also visit weaving village, Inpawkhone and a “cheroot” factory, where the typical Burmese cigars are made by hand. If time permits, enjoy a short walk through one of the lakeside villages.

After breakfast, you will be transferred to the bus station to board a daytime bus to Bagan. The journey is a memorable one as we stop at small towns and villages, well off the tourist track, full of restaurants, pagodas and markets. With over 130 ethnic groups, Burma’s people are fantastically diverse. You’ll see the Intha, the Shan and the intriguingly named Pa-0 tribes. However, nothing beats the smiling faces and delightful children who will greet you in awe. On arrival, check into your hotel.

Founded in 1044 by King Anawrahta, the Bagan Dynasty is reflected in the ancient temples built in various architectural styles. Bagan was the seat of power for the first kingdom under the Buddhist king and witnessed the construction of the temples we still see today.

After breakfast, start the day with visits to the most beautiful pagodas and temples of Bagan including Shwezigon Pagoda, built by King Anawrahta in the early 11th century as a religious shrine; Gubyaukhyi Temple at Wetkyi-Inn, noted for its spectacular painting about Buddha’s previous life; Ananda Pahto, with four remaining Buddha images; Gubyaukgyi Temple at Myinkaba, a temple with well-preserved Stuccos from the 12th century; Manuha Temple, built in the Mon style in 1059 and the Shwesandaw Paya, a monument constructed in 1057 by King Anawrahta following his conquest of Thaton. End with a visit to a lacquerware craftsmen’s workshop before ending the day with a climb to the top of an off-the-beaten track pagoda and savour the breathtaking sunset over the vast plains of Bagan, dotted with the spires and domes of more than 2,000 temples and pagodas. Transfer back to the hotel for check-in.

After breakfast, enjoy a day at leisure exploring your magical surroundings or book the below optional excursions.

Optional Mount Popa & Salay Excursion from £60pp

After breakfast, enjoy a full-day trip of Mount Popa, meaning Flower Mountain. Discover great natural beauty as you behold the sight of the sun striking its glowing cupid arrow onto the mountain rising 1518 metres above a dense forest. The mountain is believed to be a special abode of nats and other spirits. The Burmese still say: “Love the Buddha, fear the nats.”

We will head to the peak or if you are feeling adventurous you can opt to climb. You can get a real feel of its past as you view the mountain’s small shrine at the foot of the outcrop dedicated to these 37 spirits. Lunch at the restaurant of Mount Popa Resort.

Continue south to the small town of Salay. One of the religious centres in Myanmar, we will visit The Yoke Sone Monastery which exhibits antique lacquer ware, wooden reliefs and a large standing gilded Buddha image. In the afternoon, enjoy a swift transfer back to Bagan.

Optional Hot Air Balloon Flight in Bagan from £249pp

Drift above the thousands of temples below you in style, luxury and safety. At sunrise your 45 minute adventure starts with a short journey in a converted vintage bus to the launch site. You will be welcomed by refreshments before the safety briefing. Continue to the huge red balloons that light up the sky. As you ascend, you will only hear the odd blast from the burners. Land safely thanks to the pilot’s years of experience, followed by a selection of fruit, fresh pastries and a glass or two of champagne to celebrate Bagan’s beauty.

After seven days of adventure, culture and exploration, it’s time to relax in a spot which offers real escapism in the truest sense of the word. On the remote coast of Malaysia, we have found just such a place – welcome to Ngapali Beach!

After breakfast, enjoy a day at leisure before being transferred to the airport for a departure flight to Thandwe. On arrival at Thandwe airport, you’ll be met by our driver for a 20-minute transfer to the hotel for check-in.

Recently, the Financial Times Newspaper recognised Ngapali Beach as one of the world’s new desirable beach destinations. It has also nabbed the top spot of TripAdvisor’s 2016 Traveller’s Choice Awards, which ranked as the top 25 beaches in Asia based on user reviews. Seen from above the beach appears as a gleaming white canopy, curving around a three kilometre gentle bay filled with impossibly blue water, sloping into paddy fields and hills covered in untamed jungle.

After breakfast, today is dedicated to relaxing on your own paradise on earth! The hotel occupies its own private beach, so you can pamper yourself with lashings of seclusion. Spend entire afternoons underwater – when you are not on the sumptuous beach, which you may even have to yourself. Indulge in your free spa treatment at one of the local centres, offering rejuvenating and relaxing fancy footwork to help soothe aches and pains. Consultation and aftercare is included in treatment times.

After breakfast, enjoy another day at leisure. You may choose to join a private excursion such as a boat trip to Pearl Island (so-called as it was home to oyster beds for 30 years) and the fishing village, on a local long tail boat. You can also spend a morning in Thandwe town, 40 minutes away by car, past rubber plantations and paddy fields, and visit the colonial jail, which serves today as a market. Continue to a longhi factory making the special double weave silk Rakhine longhi, and it’s possible to arrange a scenic boat trip along the local river.

After breakfast, enjoy another day dedicated to your desires. The resort’s luxurious comforts have been awarded with TripAdvisor’s Certificate of Excellence and you will love the spectacular views of Ngapali Beach. Continue snorkelling the amazing underwater world where turtles and dolphins glide above soft vibrant coral and through schools of brightly coloured fish. Other attractions include oriental ballooning, kayaking, bird watching, golf and even fishing for dinner.

After breakfast, check-out from the hotel. If there’s time, end your holiday on this wonderful paradise by relaxing on the beach, strolling around the bay or bidding farewell to the friendly locals. Then it is time to head home via transfer to Yangon airport for a late afternoon flight back to the UK.
