Located in the Bayfront District, the pathway consists of stones engraved with the names of fishermen lost at sea. Each tile features the name of the fisherman, the date and the fishing vessel. There are over 100 recorded fishermen from Newport who were lost at sea, with the oldest recorded in 1920 and the most recent in 2007.
One of two structures maintained by the Lincoln County Historical Society, the historic Burrows House was converted to a museum dedicated to preserving the history of the Oregon Coast during the period of 1976-1978. The architecture is styled after the Queen-Anne Victorian homes.
Newport is outstanding for both nature lovers and birders! A variety of songbirds are found at Yaquina Bay State Park, while many ducks and brants may be heard and seen at Salley's Bend. Low tides rein in numerous shorebirds and Bald Eagles at the mudflats. Lastly, the Estuary Trail provides an observation shelter provided approximately midway.
Both restaurant and fish market, Local Ocean has floor-to-ceiling windows to afford the patrons of its open kitchen and a beautiful view. An example of one of their many creative dishes is the pan fried oysters with pork belly, spinach, apples, Korean bean paste, albacore and mushroom dashi!
At Game Over, there is a menu of concessions-type food like burgers, hot dogs, and pizzas, and both bottled and draft beers to keep you fueled while you play their selection of both new and classic games. 10 HDTVs, including a massive 70" screen, are at your viewer's pleasure as well.
Newport is served by the Eugene Aiport (EUG) in Eugene, Oregon, located approximately two hours away and Portland International Airport. There is no direct connection from the Airport to Newport. You can either take Amtrak from Eugene Amtrak Station to Albany Amtrak and from there a Bus to Newport. www.amtrak.com/northwest-train-bus-stations The Valley Retriever or Caravan Airport Transportation operates between the Oregon Coast and Amtrak. Call them under 541-994-9645. There is also a bus available called The Valley Retriever that goes to Corvallis, you change there and go to Newport with Lincoln County bus line. Lincoln County Transit provides bus services to all of Lincoln County. Depending on the bus line, service is from Monday through Saturday about 7AM - 8 or 9PM. There is a Transit Intercity Bus between the cities, Newport City Loop Bus for transportation within the city. Fares are divided into different zones and from North-South, East-West. Each zone you travel in is $1.00. A coupon book of 40 $1.00 coupons is available for $30. Check out the website for more information.
