Norrtälje was founded by King Gustav II Adolf in 1622, but much of the town was burned down in 1719 when the Russians ravaged the islands, burning everything in their path. In the mid 1800's, Norrtälje was one of the Baltic's most popular seaside resorts - known for its healing mud. Follow along on a city tour and find out more. Södra Bergen hill offers an expansive view and, in the Norrtälje River, there is plenty of trout for fly-fishing. Walk along the river to the Societetsparken. Along the quay, you'll find the restaurant boat S/S Norrtelje. Follow the water along the pier out to Kärleksuddens bathing and restaurant area. Norrtälje has hotels, camping, cottages, hostels open all year round, and a guest harbour.

Norrtälje is part of Greater Stockholm where Stockholm Public Transport, SL, is responsible for buses, underground trains, commuter trains, trams and many of the boat lines in the region. The region is divided into three zones, and zone tickets are valid for several trips within the hour. Tickets can be purchased at Norrtälje Tourism Information Center, at Pressbyrån at the bus stations as well as certain kiosks or via SMS. Please note that it's not possible to buy tickets on board on the buses in Norrtälje/Stockholm. You can buy prepaid travel cards or 1, 3, or 7-day cards, which allow free travel in all zones during the validity period. Travel time 75 minutes. Uppsala - Norrtälje: SL Bus 677. Travel time 90 minutes. AIRPORTS Norrtälje town is located about 65 kilometers from Stockholm Arlanda Airport and 75 kilometers from Bromma. Arlanda is the biggest international airport.
