Tour of Central India with Mumbai

£2099/per adult

Central India is vast and vibrant. Its cities play host to stunning archaeological gems and painfully beautiful remnants of the Stone Age, making it irresistible to history buffs.

Stopping off first in beautiful Delhi, prepare to soak up the history of India’s lively capital territory. Broken up into Old and New Delhi, the city is a successful blend of modern-meets-traditional; time-worn temples merge with bulbous skyscrapers to create an unusual and fascinating cityscape. Discover Red Fort, an Indian icon, the sprawling mosque of Jama Masjid and the thronging bazaar of Chandni Chowk with its spice-scented stalls and mouth-watering sweets.

While away the hours in Delhi and then head to Agra – home of the Taj Mahal and Agra Fort (the former residence of the Mughal Dynasty), two cultural must-sees which need no introduction.

Your next stop is Gwalior. Renowned for its palaces, intricately-carved temples and ancient fort, Gwalior offers a stunning window into India’s past. Afternoons spent endlessly wandering the former 15th century Gujari Mahal Palace and visiting tombs of ancient leaders will have you falling in love with this beautiful area.

Afterwards, you’ll be whisked off to the lush and verdant city of Bhopal. Boasting a wildlife-rich National Park, a State Museum with fossils, paintings and rare sculp tures, and the famous Taj-ul-Masjid mosque (one of the largest in Asia), it’s safe to say Bhopal is a city of contrasts and offers something for every kind of traveller.

Heading then to Maheshwar and Mandu, you’ll witness exactly why they call the latter ‘the City of Joy', before proceeding to your final destination – Mumbai. Spend your days revelling in the sights and delights of this thronging metropolis, the largest in India and formerly known as Bombay. Get up close to the iconic Gateway of India built by the British Raj in 1924, explore the Jain Temple and then feast your eyes upon the World Heritage Site of the Elephanta Caves.
